Our Travertine Cleaning Services

Professional cleaning gets deep into the pores of your travertine floor. As a porous stone, when travertine is supplied the natural pits in the stone are artificially filled to create a smoother finish. Over time, the filler (either grout or epoxy resin) can come loose, and the floor can be left with small holes throughout. These holes or pits are likely to gather dirt and can leave the travertine looking dull and lifeless. Our travertine cleaning processes will lift this and bring the surface of your stone back to life again.

We usually recommend this service for travertine that was initially filled with grout. For floors that had the pits filled with epoxy resin, the suggested process is a little different and you can read about this on the travertine polishing page. Your stone care technician will be able to determine the best recommended treatment when they visit to survey your floor.

Our Process

For the initial stage we use a rotary machine with polypropylene brushes to remove surface and deep-seated dirt and strip the existing sealant (if any) from both the stone and grout lines. Following this, we refill the pits in the travertine by hand in order to give a more homogeneous finish.

To complete your travertine cleaning, the final stage uses abrasive powders and alkaline cleaning compounds to lightly resurface the stone. This not only removes any remaining residue from the filler, but also refreshes the surface of the entire floor. This method of travertine cleaning will not only return your floor and grout to their former glory but is dust and mess free, causing minimal disruption to your home.

The final stage of all travertine cleaning and restoration processes is the application of a sealant and you can read more about this following the link below.

Maintenance

We follow up with all of our clients around 1 year to 18 months after our initial visit, based on our professional opinion of when further work is likely to be necessary. We can also provide a price for maintenance immediately on request. However, we would still recommend re-visiting before commencing work to re-familiarise ourselves with your stone

Keeping your natural stone looking stunning is something that we are passionate about. If you have had your stone treated or restored by the Athena Stonecare team then you will have been left with a guide explaining how to care for it. What our clients say

Testimonial

What really impressed me is that Athena Stone gained absolutely nothing from helping me. I wasn’t a customer and they knew there was no job in it for them, yet they still took the time to look at the problem and give me genuinely useful advice.

After the experience I’d had trying to get help elsewhere, that level of customer service really stood out. They went above and beyond for someone who wasn’t even a paying customer, and their advice made a huge difference to us.

The work done by Dave and his team on our 30+ year old limestone flooring was outstanding. The stone was dirty and very cracked in places and I never dreamt they could make something so old look so good. The resin colour they used was an exact match and the cracks they filled are barely discernible now. The cleaned limestone looks wonderful and fresh. I can’t believe what they achieved and couldn’t be more thrilled.
