The beauty of stone speaks for itself. As an industry we are all in agreement on that. It’s a phenomenon that is universally adored and has captivated the world for centuries. Stone is the original building material, a sort-after luxury and the most bespoke design element that you could ask for. It is natural, it is eco-friendly, it is sustainable.
Without the people who work with stone, it would remain undiscovered, unloved and unused. From quarries, to masons to fixers, fabricators, suppliers, sourcers, installers, and restorers. We are all in it together. And there is something about the magic of stone that ignites a passion in those that work with it.
We are a unique group and yet so very individual. The nature of our industry means that businesses are spread nationally and interact internationally. We are experts in our own niche but often naïve to the skills of the next person.
One of the exceptional things about the stone industry is that we are collaborative. There is a chain of people that each rely on each other. However, what the industry has been lacking for a long time is a space to connect. To freely engage with our counterparts, our partners, our competitors and our friends. So often these are one and the same.
It is actually quite simple. We are creating a space to connect. A regular event hosted solely for the stone industry. This is not networking to gain business but to gain personally. It’s not about products but about people. We want to bring together everyone who shares this very special love of stone. It is a chance to meet in person, share ideas, troubleshoot and simply offer a wise word of encouragement, understanding and support.
Many are facing difficult times in the market and this is not one person’s problem, it belongs to everyone. There is lots of brilliant work being done across the sector to promote stone and we all do this in our own companies too. But if we don’t look after the people what is the point?
Everyone. No matter what your role, where you work or how long you have been in the stone industry this is for you. In future, we will aim to host special events for women only, for business owners and for younger team members but for now we welcome anyone to our launch event.
An attempt to undermine or undo any of the good work that other organisations are doing across our industry. This is about bringing something extra to the table. Giving everyone something that they have been asking for. We’re not aiming to profit from the events and so don’t expect others to either. It is not about winning your next contract but building your personal and business resilience by indulging in an hour or two outside of your day job but within of a welcoming stone-centred environment.
We expect that the idea will evolve over time and for the first event, we invite you just to enjoy a drink and some nibbles on us. The conversation will be on you. The event will be held in the evening and will be free to attend. There is no format, no speeches, no talks, no presentations. There is lots of time for that in our day job, this is about stepping away from that. If you have read this far, then the chances are that you love your job and the stone industry as much as we do. In that case, We Are Stone is designed for you.
Our first event will be in September and details are being finalised. If you would like to find out more and happy to add your name to our We Are Stone waiting list, drop an email to events@athenastonecare.co.uk
