There is a little more to restoring natural stone than you may think. Our stone care kit comes in all shapes and sizes. Each piece of equipment has a specific purpose and enables us to perfectly resurface and polish any natural stone.
The most common piece of stone care kit that you will see the team using is the Levighetor. This is used to clean, restore and resurface stone floors. Every floor is completely unique. This means that a bespoke method is created for every project. The precise process will depend on the type of stone, its current condition and the required finish. Diamond abrasives are attached to the bottom of the machines in order to grind stone to remove damage. These are usually bonded onto a metal or resin disc. Finer abrasives are used to finish the stone back to its original condition. Often this will in the form of a pad. The exact order and type of diamond is determined during a site visit.
For larger areas or floors that are significantly damaged the biggest piece of stone care kit comes out. The benefit of the Titan is twofold. Its 250kg weight capacity enables more downward pressure on a floor enabling us to grind a floor flat. This is especially important when a floor has been poorly installed. Lippage refers to the difference in height between tiles at a grout line. A floor that is lipped cannot be polished until the surface has first been ground flat. Although we can use the Levighetor for grinding, the Titan is more efficient. It also has the advantage of being larger and able to cover a bigger surface area more quickly.
Although the Titan might look impressive, you should never underestimate the importance of the Extrema. Whilst the large machines are designed to cover the entire floor, the circular system doesn’t quite get into all of the nooks and crannies. You will often see the team using a specialist hand tool to get into every corner on site and the Klindex Extrema is all about the edges. Ensuring that the stone is evenly finished is vital and this is why we make sure that we have the right stone care kit for every part of the job.
When it comes to worktops, the UFO is the main character. This is a machine designed specifically to be hand guided to grind and refinish marble and limestone islands and worktops. The base of the UFO is fitted with what is referred to as a planetary system. This system has 3 rotating attachments fitted with the diamond abrasives, achieving a more thorough and flatter finish than a single disk hand polisher.
The UFO is supported by the HG13 Rock. This is a very special piece of stone care kit that finds itself the star of both floor and worktop polishing. As a small version of the floor machines, the Rocky is easier to lift and transport for use on bathroom floors. It can also be adjusted for use on marble islands. The benefit of the HG13 Rock is that it can polish a larger area of worktop, island top or table, creating a more consistent finish.
Last but by no means least is the HG Water Fire. As the only piece of stone care kit that works vertically as well as horizontally you will usually find the Water Fire being used in kitchens, but works brilliantly on floor edges, skirtings and stairs.
