The final stage of all bathroom stone cleaning, polishing or restoration service is the application of a sealant. Stone in a bathroom is sealed with an impregnating sealant.
Impregnating sealants penetrate the capillaries of the stone and protect from within. They can leave your bathroom stone surface with a natural, or colour-enhanced appearance, but always with the stone surface exposed. Because stone is porous, this sealant is essential to stop any spillages onto the stone penetrating within and damaging the internal structure and causing a deep set stain.
Contact UsContrary to popular belief, impregnating sealants themselves don’t degrade over time. The pores and capillaries that were originally sealed will remain so, however chemical and mechanical traffic, from feet, running water and cleaning chemicals will create and expose new pores and capillaries which will require additional sealant. Usually, the more people using the bathroom the more frequently the protection will need to be reapplied.
It is important to note that sealing your stone will not prevent etching to the surface caused by contact with acidic liquids. You should always ensure that you keep the stone in your bathroom free from exposure to acidic cleaning products and cosmetics.
