We were delighted once again to be a part of the Stone and Surfaces Show this year. Not only did we sit on the Advisory Board, but led a talk and hosted a networking event too.
Stone and Surfaces Show is the biggest UK event dedicated to showcasing natural stone to buyers and end users. Taking place at Excel London it is always a highlight of our calendar. This year it was co-located with UK Construction Week and Futurebuild making it the biggest trade show for the built environment. The aim was to unite architects, designers and main contractors. Furthermore this placed an emphasis on sustainable construction and made natural stone the obvious material to become the centrepiece.
This was also the first year that the Stone and Surfaces Show was under the management of Media 10 Group. They are a world-renowned events and marketing company and the mastermind behind Clerkenwell Design Week. Athena Stonecare Director Becca was asked to sit on the Advisory Board to help guide the vision for the event. As previous Chair of Women in Natural Stone, they called upon her knowledge of how to engage the people from all corners of the industry. She was joined on the committee by other leaders from the stone industry. This included Jane Buxey the Stone Federation CEO and the Owner of Hutton Stone and current Euroroc President Marcus Paine.
Known for Networking
With a reputation for networking, and connections with the design and construction industry, Becca was asked to help organise a women’s networking event at the Show. She joined forces with Women In Natural Stone to bring together those working directly in the stone industry with Architects, Interior Designers who regularly work with the material. This created an opportunity to learn, share ideas and create an environment that fostered collaboration. The event was attended by Adam Architecture, Carrara Marble, House Mazur and Kitchen Architecture.
Becca was also asked to lead a panel on the Main Stage. The title of the talk was Specifying Stone for Interiors to Last Forever. The discussion focussed on best practice that can be implemented along the installation journey to impact the longevity of the stone. Many of the problems that Athena Stonecare are called in to rectify could have been avoided. As a consequence, we’re passionate about educating anyone who works with stone on how to get the best from it. We invited representatives from Ca’Pietra, Barr Build and Project London to join us for the occasion. The panel shared insights on how they approach conversations with clients about natural stone. The significance of selecting the correct stone and finish as well as the importance of making aftercare simple was highlighted by all.
