As part of her kitchen renovation project, our client wanted to keep her limestone floor. Recognising that it had a hidden beauty, she realised that the stone could become a feature of the room. She was recommended to Athena Stonecare by Kate Feather who were undertaking the kitchen renovation.
We attended to carry out a sample to demonstrate the impact that choosing a full restoration treatment over a clean could have. Although all of our cleaning services will get into the pores of the stone, the benefit of a full grind is that surface is renewed. In this case the age of the stone and the traffic it had seen over the years had left ingrained discolouration. The grinding process removes a very thin layer to reveal a fresh surface with the same properties as when the stone was installed.
The work was carried out over 5 days with 2 team members attending. The visited was timed to fit into the client’s kitchen renovation after the old units were removed and before the installation was to begin. This enabled the limestone to be treated in its entirety and create an even and uniform finish.
In total seven stages of diamond restoration were used. The initial grinding phases used the largest piece of machinery the Titan with metal bonded discs. This removed the scratches and surface damage. A deep penetrating impregnator was applied to help to protect the stone against lasting impact of moisture and then the natural pits were hand filled by the team. The resurfacing process could then take place to bring the tiles back to looking like they did when it was first installed. The service also included a densifying treatment to help further consolidate and protect the limestone.
Delighted with the results the client left a review on Google
“I would highly recommend Athena Stonecare, they have done an amazing job on our twenty year old limestone floors, they look better than they did new! Dave and his team were very professional, tidy, trustworthy and efficient. Also very grateful to Becca who was incredibly helpful and managed to fit in the works around our kitchen installation.”
