Every now and again we have an opportunity to take on a very special project and this is one of them. A parishioner at St Mary’s Church in Hertingfordbury made a donation to have the marble altar restored. It was an honour to be trusted with this project and one that we took great care and time to perfect.
In order to restore the marble to its original condition we had to undertake 6 stages of diamond grinding. This removed the surface scratches and damage and gently buffed away the top layer of stone to reveal a fresh marble. We used our biggest piece of machinery The Titan to complete the work and began with metal bonded diamonds. These are the most aggressive abrasive that we use and is designed to create a flat surface for us to restore. After this we used five different types of resin bonded diamonds to refinish the stone to the desired level of shine. As part of the process we also filled missing areas of grout with an appropriate colour match.
The final stage was to apply an impregnator to protect the stone to last another hundred years and more.

Dave and his team did such a brilliant job restoring our limestone bathroom floors which someone used bleach on by accident. We thought they were ruined but Athena made them look like new again!
