Our client initially made contact as she believed that something had been applied to the floor that had changed the colour of the stone. Whilst undertaking renovation work, she had discovered an area of stone that was still in the original condition and wanted to see if the rest of the stone could be revived and restored to match. During the visit to quote, we ascertained that the old sealant had discoloured over time and this was causing the ‘two-tone’ effect across the stone.
We recommended stripping back all of the existing sealant in order to even out the floor and suggested a more natural finish sealant. The client was keen to brighten up the room and so keeping the stone as light as possible was important.
The limestone was initially stripped and deep cleaned using alkaline cleaning products and an abrasive powder. This enabled a clean deep into the pores of the stone and gentle resurfacing too. Once dry, a natural finish impregnating sealant was applied followed by a matt finish surface wax for additional protection.
