After the opening night of their new Hertford Showroom, Grisaille Studio asked our team to attend to restore their marble. As advocates of using natural stone in their project, the marble worktops are the centrepiece of the showroom and so it was important to have them back to perfection. During the opening party, prosecco had spilled onto the surface and had left etch marks throughout. An etch mark is caused when an acidic substance comes into contact with marble and reacts with the calcium carbonate in the stone. It causes a dull or white patch. This damage is only surface level but cannot be removed simply by wiping away so requires professional restoration.
Using specialist hand-held machinery, the surface of the stone was gently abrased to remove the etch marks before it was refinished. It is at this point that the client is able to choose the level of polish. In this case a high shine was chosen, and the stone was protected with an impregnator.
