At the end of a renovation project our client was looking to see what could be done to save her marble floor. It had been installed 30 years ago and although stained and scuffed, it was a feature of the property and something that she was keen to restore rather than replace. When speaking with her worktop supplier, The Marble Workshop, they recommend that she engaged with Athena Stonecare to see if the floor could be transformed.
With significant staining and lippage across the floor, it was an extensive project. Although only a small area, the largest piece of our equipment, The Titan was required in order to grind the floor completely flat. This is an essential step not only to create an even surface to polish but also to remove some of the deeper scratches.
Following this, specialist stain removal products were applied to the yellow stains and this was left to dwell for 48 hours. A deep penetrating sealant was also added to entire floor in order to minimise the risk of further similar staining occurring in the future.
Before the refinishing process could begin, the team filled the cracks, chips and areas of missing grout with epoxy resin by hand. To polish the stone, resin bonded diamond abrasives were used in 6 stages to first remove the scratch patterns and gently polish the marble to create a natural shine. A final powder polish created an even and beautifully reflective surface and the marble was then sealed with an impregnator.
