The ongoing maintenance of natural stone is important. Not only so that it always looks at its best, but also to help ensure the longevity of the surface. In high traffic areas, the continued abrasion from footfall will start to have an impact. It won’t necessarily wear away the existing sealant, but will open up new capillaries in the stone which will be unsealed. This leave the stone vulnerable to staining.
For lighter coloured stones, the dirt and dust that is carried into the home will also start to dull the surface. Investing in a regular maintenance programme will rejuvenate the surface of the stone as well as sealing the internal structure to make sure that it will last forever.
Our client has a regular treatment with Athena Stonecare once a year. During the visit, the limestone is firstly deep cleaned using high alkaline cleaning compounds. This removes that initial layer of dirt that has built up over the year. Following this, the surface is gently buffed with diamond pads in order to enhance the shine on the stone before it is sealed with an impregnator.
