A high end London salon had a marble floor installed 15 years previously but the owner had never been happy with the finish. The tiles themselves were slightly textured and this making them more difficult to maintain, with dirt and marks showing more easily across the surface. Further to this, the uneven height of the tiles meant that there was a tendency for dirty water to pool in certain areas after mopping. As a busy salon, there was a need to clean the floor more frequently than in a domestic setting but with the issues with the tiles, the owner was just never happy with the floor.
During the initial visit, a fully restoration treatment was necessary in order to completely transform the floor and create the look that the salon deserved.
The floor tiles were firstly ground flat with 2 stages of metal bonded diamonds to create a flush finish across the grout lines. This removed lippage at the joints as well as tackling the scratches, surface damage and soiling across the stone and the grout.
Following this, 4 further stages of resin bonded diamonds resurfaced the floor to achieve desired satin finish. The stairs throughout the salon had the addition of a densifying compound to strengthen the stone and make it less susceptible to scratching and soiling.
The outcome not only created the floor that the salon owner had always wanted, but also made the surfaces easier to maintain to ensure that the salon always had that wow factor.
Future professional maintenance visits would then require a less intense treatment. Every 6 months, the Athena Stonecare team visit and provide the following treatment: Deep clean marble floor tiles and grout with alkaline cleaning compounds. Resurface floor with 400 grit diamond abrasives to remove surface staining, light scratches and etch marks. Rinse floor with stone soap and apply 3 coats of Fila MP90 Eco Extreme impregnating sealant.
