Following a flood, the limestone floor throughout the basement level at a Marylebone based restaurant had experienced some significant damage. The floor has been carefully chosen as part of a renovation project some years earlier and was a feature that the owners were particularly fond of. Supplied by Amarestone the brushed finish Chamesson limestone flooring had a beautiful texture and the client was conscious to ensure that this was not altered by the restoration process. This meant that the floor could not be ground with diamonds and so a specialist service was required.
Initially the team used alkaline cleaning compounds and abrasive honing powder to strip existing sealants. At this stage in the process, we discovered that a glossy lacquer had been applied to the floor during the weekly cleaning treatment, and the build up was masking further flood damage. After fully stripping this, a salt remover was applied to the flood damaged tiles to remove efflorescence. The floor was then rinsed before the application of an impregnating sealant and finishing wax to achieve desired level of shine.
Having the correct ongoing maintenance is essential for any stone floor. Not only is it important to have a cleaning regime that will keep your stone in great condition but using the correct products will enable the floor to be restored in future should it require a professional service. We were pleased to provide the client with a guide recommending a wax that can be periodically applied to refresh the protection without impacting the stone surface.
