Fill and Clean

As part of the renovation of this apartment block in London, the travertine floor and walls were in need of a refresh. As the main entrance the floor had seen heavy footfall and over time, the dirt that gathered in the pits had left a dullness over the entire floor.

Travertine is a naturally pitted stone which is part of its beauty. It can also make it more difficult to maintain. The pits are usually filled before installation and over time these will become loose. The holes that are left become a magnet for dirt and dust. In a domestic setting, we always advise removing outdoor shoes, sweeping daily and keeping moisture contact with the floor to a minimum. You can read more about this here.

At Cinnamon Wharf we sectioned the work into different areas in order that the building could remain open as function as normal throughout our visit. We treated both the walls and floor across 3 days. Many areas were cleaned by hand to ensure that nothing was missed. Following the initial deep cleaning process the floors were then restored using diamond abrasives. Initial copper bonded diamonds were used to remove the scratches and ingrained dirt and stains and this also create an even finish for us to begin to resurface. A further 5 stages of refinishing were required to create the desired surface on the travertine. The floor was then protected with a special deep penetrating impregnator for easier maintenance.

After restoring the floor, we were able to advise a cleaning regime that should slow this for the future and ensure that the results of our hard work last a little longer.

Really happy, both with the quality of the worktop finish (ring marks, be gone!) and with the Athena Stonecare experience overall. Am sure we'll be using them again.

Our whole experience with Athena Stonecare was outstanding from quote to aftercare. We had our marble worktops and travertine floor restored. The settlement cracks on the floor have completely vanished. It has been a pleasure dealing with a firm who cares about it's customers, everyone involved was super polite and helpful. I would highly recommend.

Dave and his team did such a brilliant job restoring our limestone bathroom floors which someone used bleach on by accident. We thought they were ruined but Athena made them look like new again! I would highly recommend them and we will definitely use them for future cleaning and maintenance. Thank you Athena!
