Our client contacted us to see what could be done to save her limestone floor. As part of her kitchen renovation project, she was keen to retain the original flooring. Although she had not selected the stone herself, it had always felt like part of the house. Over many years, wear and tear had left it looking a little lack lustre and she was keen to see what was hidden underneath.
After visiting the property, we proposed two options to the client. One to simply lift the dirt, clean up the grout and refresh the surface of the stone. As a more extensive treatment (and our recommended gold standard), we suggested full grinding the floor flat before restoring. This would enable a better finish across the floor, allowing the diamond polishing to be more even and giving a longer lasting finish. We carried out a sample to demonstrate the anticipated results and the client was eager to go ahead with the deeper treatment.
Over 4 days, 3 team members attended. The process required our largest piece of equipment The Titan to initially grind the floor flat to the level of the grout line to remove the lippage. Following this the stone was resurfaced using metal, copper and resin bonded diamond abrasives to achieve desired finish. As part of the process all of the pits in the stone were filled using colour matched epoxy resin and a Beton hardener was added to help reduce the porosity and the floor and enable the finish to last longer.
