Granite worktops are a beautiful addition to your kitchen. Granite is well sought after because it is a very hard stone and doesn’t react to chemicals in the same way as calcareous stones such as marble and limestone.
Because of this, true granite is very rarely in need of restoration. A lot of enquiries we receive for granite worktops are concerned about removing limescale and hard water deposits to its surface. There are times where a restoration treatment is required however.
Contact UsThe processes for granite worktop refinish and polishing are very similar to the stone floor polishing processes but use a number of smaller diamond tools with abrasive pads and powders as required.
A full restoration process to transform heavily scratched granite worktop can take up to 9 levels of diamond resurfacing. The initial stages will use course graded diamonds to remove the scratches on the surface of the stone. A series of finer diamond pads will then be used to remove the scratch pattern from the previous diamond pads. The desired finish is then achieved by a system of higher grit diamond segments, pads, powders and crystallisers that can be used in stages for matte, satin or high shine.
Contact UsThe final stage of granite worktop polishing, or restoration services is the application of a sealant. Not all granite will require application of a sealant, so a test will be done to ascertain the level of porosity first. If your granite would benefit from application of a sealant, we would use a high-quality impregnating product.
Impregnating sealants penetrate the capillaries of the stone and protect from within. They can leave your granite surface with a natural, or colour-enhanced appearance, but always with the stone surface exposed. Because stone is porous, this sealant is essential to stop any spillages onto the stone penetrating within and damaging the internal structure and causing a deep-set stain.
Get A QuoteThe frequency of professional maintenance visits will depend on the stone finish, cleaning regime and ongoing use of the worktop. It will also depend on the initial restoration works undertaken. We always aim to create a bespoke programme for each of our clients and can discuss this with you during our survey.
