In a property that was being rented out, the tenants had caused significant damage to the marble tiles in attempts to remove limescale staining.
Marble is acid sensitive. With strong acids, you will see the effects of this instantly. Known as etching, this is not something that can be wiped or cleaned off.
Tap water is not always PH neutral which means that over time, this can have a similar effect on stone. This particular client, had used an acidic cleaner to try and remove the initial limescale stain and this had resulted in further etch marks to the marble which required professional removal.
Using a hand-held diamond grinding tool and resin bonded diamond abrasives, 8 levels of resurfacing was required to restore the marble. The initial stages used the courses grade of diamond to take that damaged marble beyond the etch marks. A series of finer diamond pads were then used to feather the edges of this in and blend into the surrounding marble. The marble was then polished with a natural polishing powder all over for a high shine finish before sealing for protection.
The work done by Dave and his team on our 30+ year old limestone flooring was outstanding. The stone was dirty and very cracked in places and I never dreamt they could make something so old look so good. The resin colour they used was an exact match and the cracks they filled are barely discernible now. The cleaned limestone looks wonderful and fresh. I can't believe what they achieved and couldn't be more thrilled.
